Corker Hill National Historic Register of Historic Places Corker Hill included in the National Historic RegisterApril 30, Scotland, PA - On April 11, 2003, Jean H Cutler wrote a letter to the owners of Corker Hill. Ms. Cutler is the director of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Bureau for the Historic Preservation, located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The letter informed the current owners of Corker Hill their home had been placed in the Register on March 18, 2003. "We are very pleased and proud to have our home included in the Register. It is an honor bestowed on national treasures, and gives us one more reason to love our home," stated Dr. Rose A. Fiskett. The honor comes after a lengthy process of researching the history of the home and managing a very arduous process put forth by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States Government. "It's been almost a three year effort we went through to have Corker Hill listed," Fiskett added, "I'm glad it is finally completed, but have enjoyed learning the marvelous history of not only our home, but of the surrounding area as well." Greene township has three historically listed places including now Corker Hill. In part, the proclamation reads. "The National Register of Historic Places, kept by the United States Department of the Interior, is the official list of our Nation's historic places worthy of preservation. It includes properties significant in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, and culture. These places contribute to our understanding of the historical and cultural foundations of the United States." In addition to the honor and prestige associated with entry into the Register comes great responsibility. "By virtue of this proclamation we are now charged with the preservation of a part of American History," stated Phil Fiskett. As the current caretakers, they are committed to keeping Corker Hill as a treasure for future generations to enjoy and reflect. This unselfish act on the part of the Fiskett's will provide historians years from now easy access to records of the mansion and surrounding features that once comprised a 19th century marvel. A placard will be erected later this spring to identify Corker Hill's historic significance. A celebration is planned to coincide with the event, and will feature local as well and state and national dignitaries.
