Corker Hill National Historic Register of Historic Places SettingThe Corker Hill building complex overlooks a small creek known as Phillaman Run and the village of Scotland to the southwest. The farm lane, lined by a limestone retaining wall, is an extension of Garver Lane in Scotland village. It crosses Phillaman Run and curves around the front (south side) of the Corker Hill mansion house. The yard surrounding the house is landscaped with lawn, flowerbeds, mature deciduous trees and conifers. Domestic outbuildings are conveniently located in the rear yard. The lane continues around the east side of the house yard, between the house and the barn and continues around the west and north sides of the barn.
Historically the lane continued east from the mansion house in front of the barn, as indicated by a limestone retaining wall running east-west below the animal yard (see 1868 Atlas map); the lane returns to its historic course northeast of the barn, passing in front of the c.1870s tenant house and ending at the modern Rt. 997 Scotland by-pass. North of the building complex the property continues under orchard production; south and east of the lane and building complex are wetlands and meadow associated with the floodplain of Phillaman Run. |
